Crisp apples, crunchy celery, sweet seedless grapes and toasted walnuts are tossed in a creamy mayonnaise-based dressing for a classic waldorf salad that’s bright, refreshing, and easy to prepare.
2cupsapples, dicedabout 2 medium apples, tart or sweet as preferred
1cupcelery, chopped
1cupseedless grapes, halvedred or green
1cupwalnuts, chopped and toasted
Dressing
1/2cupmayonnaiseor half mayo and half plain yogurt for a lighter dressing
1tbsplemon juicefreshly squeezed
1/4tspsaltor to taste
Instructions
Core and dice the apples into bite-sized pieces; toss with a little lemon juice if you want to prevent browning.
Thinly slice the celery and halve the seedless grapes. Roughly chop the walnuts and toast them briefly in a dry skillet until fragrant; let cool.
In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, lemon juice and salt until smooth and well combined.
Place the apples, celery, grapes and walnuts in a large mixing bowl. Pour the dressing over the mixture and fold gently until everything is evenly coated.
Cover and chill the salad for about 30 minutes to let the flavors meld. Taste and adjust seasoning before serving.
Notes
For a lighter version, substitute half of the mayonnaise with plain Greek yogurt; add a touch of honey if you prefer a sweeter dressing.Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. For best texture, add the nuts just before serving if you want them extra crunchy.
