About Big Mac Smash Burgers

Big Mac Smash Burgers are a modern twist on a classic favorite, offering all the beloved flavors we adore, wrapped in a keto-friendly tortilla. During my testing process, I played with ratios and cook times, ensuring that the beef is tender and packed with flavor while allowing the cheese to melt perfectly. This dish is both economical and quick, making it ideal for weeknight dinners or festive gatherings.

  • Quick prep time makes it a go-to for busy weeknights.
  • Budget-friendly ingredients ensure everyone can enjoy it.
  • Comforting flavors that the whole family will love.
  • Keto-friendly option without sacrificing taste!

Key Ingredients & Their Roles

  • Ground Beef: The star of the show, using high-fat content ensures juicy burgers.
  • Keto Tortillas: These zero-carb tortillas provide the perfect crunch and hold.
  • American Cheese: Melts beautifully, adding creaminess to each bite.
  • Dill Pickles: Offers tangy crunch, brightening up every mouthful.

How to Make Big Mac Smash Burgers

  1. Start by heating a skillet over medium-high heat; once hot, it should sizzle when you add the meat.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with garlic powder, salt, and pepper; knead until evenly mixed.
  3. Form the mixture into 8 evenly-sized balls; aim for about a golf ball size for even cooking.
  4. Flatten each ball onto the center of a tortilla, ensuring it covers the surface completely.
  5. Place the tortillas in the skillet meat side down. Cook for 3-4 minutes, pressing down to create a flat burger.
  6. Flip the burgers, top with a slice of American cheese, and cook for another 2-3 minutes until melted.
  7. Whisk the sauce ingredients together until smooth, then spread over each burger.
  8. Top with shredded lettuce and dill pickle slices before serving.

Pro Tips & Troubleshooting

  • I found that using a hot skillet is essential for a good sear—take your time to let it heat up!
  • Common mistake: Overcrowding the skillet. Cook in batches for better crust formation.
  • Experiment by adding different sauce ingredients for a personal touch—try a touch of horseradish for a kick!
  • If making for a crowd, consider doubling the ingredients; they freeze well for later!

Storage & Make-Ahead Guide

You can store leftover burgers in the fridge for up to 3 days. Alternatively, freeze them before cooking for up to 3 months. To reheat, just pop them in a skillet over medium heat, flipping until heated through.
