Tartar sauce is a classic condiment, perfect for pairing with seafood, fries, or even as a dip for vegetables. This easy-to-make recipe combines mayonnaise, mustard, lemon, and pickles for a creamy, tangy sauce. It’s quick to prepare, takes only a few ingredients, and adds flavor to any meal. Homemade tartar sauce is fresher and more customizable than store-bought versions, and you can adjust it to your taste.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup mayonnaise use a dairy-free option if preferred
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped pickles or relish
  • 1 teaspoon capers drained and chopped (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley chopped
  •  
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions
 

  • Combine Ingredients: In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, and lemon juice until smooth.
  • Add Pickles and Capers: Stir in the chopped pickles and capers (if using) along with the fresh parsley.
  • Season: Add salt and pepper to taste. Mix everything well.

  • Chill: For the best flavor, let the sauce sit in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to blend.

Notes

To make it spicier, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a dash of hot sauce.
If you prefer a smoother texture, blend the sauce using an immersion blender.
For a dairy-free option, swap out the mayonnaise with vegan mayo or avocado.
