Add equal parts sugar and water to a small saucepan.
Heat over medium, stirring until the sugar completely dissolves. Do not boil.

Notes
For a thicker syrup (rich syrup), use 2 parts sugar to 1 part water.Store in the fridge for up to 3–4 weeks. Rich syrup lasts up to 6 months.Shake gently if crystals form.
