- Granulated sugar
- Water
- Optional: vanilla extract caramel essence, hazelnut flavoring, or herbs (for variations)
Add equal parts sugar and water to a small saucepan.
Heat over medium, stirring until the sugar completely dissolves. Do not boil.
Remove from heat and allow to cool to room temperature.
