Ingredients
  

  • Granulated sugar
  • Water
  • Optional: vanilla extract caramel essence, hazelnut flavoring, or herbs (for variations)

Instructions
 

  • Add equal parts sugar and water to a small saucepan.
  • Heat over medium, stirring until the sugar completely dissolves. Do not boil.
  • Remove from heat and allow to cool to room temperature.
  • (Optional) Stir in extracts, spices, or herbs for flavored syrup.
  • Transfer syrup to a clean, airtight bottle or jar.

Notes

For a thicker syrup (rich syrup), use 2 parts sugar to 1 part water.
Store in the fridge for up to 3–4 weeks. Rich syrup lasts up to 6 months.
Shake gently if crystals form.
