Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 10 oz mini marshmallows do not substitute with large
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal gives tender-crisp texture
  • 2 drops red gel food coloring add more for deeper hue
  • 2 drops purple gel food coloring start small to avoid oversaturation
  • 0.25 cup strawberry piping gel for “blood” effect

Instructions

Melt & Mix

  • Line a 9×13" pan with parchment and lightly butter the surface.
  • In a large saucepan over low heat, melt the butter, then add marshmallows and stir gently for about 5 minutes until glossy.
  • Stir in red and purple gel food coloring until you reach a pale magenta shade.
  • Remove from heat, fold in the Rice Krispies cereal until every flake is coated.

Shape & Decorate

  • Transfer the mixture into the prepared pan and press firmly with a buttered spatula. Let rest 10 minutes.
  • Lift the slab onto a cutting board and cut brain shapes or use a cutter to form lobes.
  • Pipe strawberry gel into grooves to mimic brain folds and add drips. Let set 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

Personal testing revealed that using gel ensures consistent color without thinning the mixture.
Chill briefly before cutting to prevent stickiness and maintain shape.
Store brains in a single layer at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
