Ingredients

For the Dough

  • 3 ½ cups bread flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 ¼ cups warm water around 110°F
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

For the Sauce

  • 1 can 14 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon basil dried or fresh, finely chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Toppings

  • 2 cups freshly grated mozzarella cheese
  • Your choice of toppings e.g., pepperoni, mushrooms, bell peppers, arugula

Instructions

1. Make the Dough

  • Combine warm water, sugar, and yeast in a small bowl. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Slowly add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until dough comes together.
  • Knead on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1–2 hours until doubled in size.

2. Prepare the Sauce

  • Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add garlic and sauté for 30 seconds.
  • Stir in crushed tomatoes, sugar, oregano, and basil. Simmer for 15–20 minutes.
  • Season with salt and pepper. Let cool.

3. Assemble the Pizza

  • Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C).
  • Roll out the dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness. Transfer to a pizza stone or baking sheet dusted with cornmeal.
  • Spread a thin layer of sauce over the dough, leaving a ½-inch border.
  • Sprinkle mozzarella cheese evenly, then add your choice of toppings.
  • Brush the crust edges with olive oil for a golden finish.

4. Bake and Serve

  • Bake for 10–12 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
  • Let rest for 2–3 minutes before slicing. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a crispy crust, use a pizza stone and preheat it with the oven.
  • Experiment with different cheese blends like provolone or parmesan for added flavor.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
