For the Dough 3 ½ cups bread flour 1 ½ teaspoons salt 1 teaspoon sugar 2 ¼ teaspoons 1 packet active dry yeast 1 ¼ cups warm water around 110°F 2 tablespoons olive oil For the Sauce 1 can 14 oz crushed tomatoes 2 tablespoons olive oil 2 cloves garlic minced 1 teaspoon sugar 1 teaspoon dried oregano ½ teaspoon basil dried or fresh, finely chopped Salt and pepper to taste For the Toppings 2 cups freshly grated mozzarella cheese Your choice of toppings e.g., pepperoni, mushrooms, bell peppers, arugula
1. Make the Dough Combine warm water , sugar , and yeast in a small bowl. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt . Slowly add the yeast mixture and olive oil . Stir until dough comes together.
Knead on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1–2 hours until doubled in size.
2. Prepare the Sauce Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add garlic and sauté for 30 seconds.
Stir in crushed tomatoes , sugar , oregano , and basil . Simmer for 15–20 minutes.
Season with salt and pepper . Let cool.
3. Assemble the Pizza Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C).
Roll out the dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness. Transfer to a pizza stone or baking sheet dusted with cornmeal.
Spread a thin layer of sauce over the dough, leaving a ½-inch border.
Sprinkle mozzarella cheese evenly, then add your choice of toppings.
Brush the crust edges with olive oil for a golden finish.
For a crispy crust, use a pizza stone and preheat it with the oven.
