Ingredients
  

  • 2 oz tequila silver/blanco
  • 1 oz Cointreau or triple sec
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice about 1 lime
  • ½ oz agave syrup or simple syrup optional
  • Ice cubes
  • Coarse salt for glass rim
  • Lime wedge for garnish

Optional Swaps:

  • Use flavored tequila e.g. jalapeño-infused for a spicy version
  • Replace Cointreau with Grand Marnier for a richer taste
  • Use orange juice if no liqueur is available

Instructions
 

  • Run a lime wedge around the rim of your glass and dip it in coarse salt.
  • Fill the glass with fresh ice cubes.
  • In a cocktail shaker, combine tequila, lime juice, Cointreau, and agave syrup.
  • Add ice, then shake vigorously for 15–20 seconds.
  • Strain the cocktail into your prepared glass.
  • Garnish with a lime slice or wedge. Serve immediately.

Notes

Always use fresh lime juice for the best flavor.
If serving a crowd, scale up the ingredients and pre-mix in a pitcher.
To make a frozen margarita, blend all ingredients with 1½ cups of ice.
