Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups ketchup
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup tamari or soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan, mix together the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, water, brown sugar, tamari, yellow mustard, garlic powder, ground cumin, onion powder, and smoked paprika. Add in a few grinds of black pepper for extra flavor.
  • Heat the mixture over medium heat. As it starts to simmer, lower the heat and allow it to gently bubble while stirring frequently for about 20 minutes.
  • Look for the sauce to thicken to a nice, glossy texture. Once it's ready, taste it and adjust the seasoning if necessary.
  • Let the sauce cool before transferring it to an airtight container for storage. It can last in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
