Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup lukewarm milk
  • 1/2 cup lukewarm water
  • 1 tsp active dry yeast
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 5 tbsp soft butter divided
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp salt
  • black pepper to taste

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, mix together the lukewarm milk, water, sugar, and yeast, letting it sit for about 5 to 10 minutes until it becomes frothy and fragrant.
  • Add in the all-purpose flour and salt. Stir together to form a dough, then knead until smooth and elastic.
  • Incorporate 1 tablespoon of soft butter into the dough and continue kneading for another 8 to 10 minutes, enjoying the buttery aroma.
  • On a floured surface, roll the dough out as thin as you can—aim for transparency; this will generate that delightful crunch.
  • Combine the remaining butter with minced garlic, oregano, and a sprinkle of black pepper. Gently brush this mixture over the dough.
  • Cut the dough into slender strips, ready for the oven.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the sticks are golden and crispy, filling your home with a warm, inviting scent.

Notes

These garlic bread sticks are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored for a few days. Crisp them back up in a warm oven if needed.
