Ingredients

  • 1 lb 450g ground beef
  • 1 large onion thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 packet French onion soup mix
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 soft hamburger buns
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese or Swiss cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Cook the Ground Beef: Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Drain excess fat.
  • Caramelize the Onions: In the same skillet, melt butter and olive oil over medium-low heat. Add onions and cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden and caramelized.
  • Add Flavor: Stir in Worcestershire sauce and French onion soup mix. Mix well to coat onions with the seasoning.
  • Make the Sauce: Pour in beef broth and simmer for 5 minutes, letting the flavors meld together.
  • Combine Beef and Onions: Return the beef to the skillet, stir to combine with onions, and season with salt and pepper.
  • Assemble the Sloppy Joes: Spoon the mixture onto the bottom half of each bun. Top with cheese.
  • Melt the Cheese: Place under a broiler for 1-2 minutes until cheese is melted.
  • Serve: Add the top bun and serve immediately.
