Ingredients
  

  • 6 large eggs
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg plus more for garnish
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ to 1 cup rum bourbon, or brandy (optional, adjust to taste)

Instructions
 

  • Whisk eggs and sugar until pale and fluffy.
  • Heat milk and cream in a saucepan until steaming (do not boil).
  • Temper eggs by slowly adding hot milk mixture while whisking.
  • Pour mixture back into saucepan, cook on low until slightly thickened.
  • Stir in vanilla, nutmeg, and cinnamon.
  • Chill in the fridge for at least 2 hours.
  • Serve with a sprinkle of nutmeg and a cinnamon stick.

Notes

For a kid-friendly version, skip the alcohol.
Whip egg whites separately for an extra frothy texture.
Use pasteurized eggs for added safety.
