Ingredients
  

  • 2 large sweet onions finely chopped
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch optional, for extra crispness
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions
 

  • Finely chop the onions and place in a bowl.
  • In another bowl, mix flour, sugar, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Beat the egg and mix with milk.
  • Stir wet mixture into dry ingredients to form a batter.
  • Fold in chopped onions until well coated.
  • Heat 1/2 inch of oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Drop spoonfuls of batter into hot oil. Flatten slightly.
  • Fry 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.
  • Drain on paper towels. Serve hot with dipping sauce.

Notes
