Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of French or Italian bread about 14 oz
  • 1/2 cup salted butter softened
  • 3-4 cloves of garlic minced (or 1 tablespoon of garlic powder)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning optional
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh parsley chopped (for garnish)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Prepare the Bread: Slice the loaf of bread in half lengthwise and place both halves cut-side up on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Make the Garlic Butter Mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, Italian seasoning (if using), salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  • Spread the Mixture: Generously spread the garlic butter mixture over both halves of the bread, ensuring even coverage for maximum flavor.
  • Add Cheese: Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan evenly over the buttered bread halves.
  • Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 12-15 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. For an extra crispy top, switch to broil for an additional 1-2 minutes at the end.
  • Garnish and Serve: Once out of the oven, sprinkle with fresh parsley if desired. Slice into pieces and serve warm.

Notes

For a spicier version, add red pepper flakes to the cheese topping.
You can use different types of cheese like cheddar or gouda for variety.
This recipe can be made ahead of time; just assemble it and store it in the refrigerator until you're ready to bake.
