This easy bagel recipe creates bakery-style bagels with a golden crust and chewy inside. Simple ingredients, customizable toppings, and beginner-friendly steps make it perfect for home bakers.
In a large bowl, mix warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
Add flour and salt, stirring until a dough forms.
Knead on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
Punch down the dough and divide into 8 equal pieces. Shape into balls, then poke a hole through the center of each and stretch gently.
Let shaped bagels rest on a lined tray for 15 minutes.
