Ingredients
-
½ cup finely grated cucumber
-
1 cup Greek yogurt (whole milk)
-
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
-
½ tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
-
1 garlic clove, grated
-
¼ teaspoon sea salt
-
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
-
1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill (or mint, or a combination)
Instructions
-
Grate the Cucumber
Use a box grater to finely grate the cucumber. -
Remove Excess Water
Place the grated cucumber in a clean kitchen towel or paper towels and squeeze out the excess water to prevent the sauce from becoming too watery. -
Mix the Ingredients
In a medium-sized bowl, combine the grated cucumber, Greek yogurt, lemon juice, olive oil, and grated garlic. Stir everything until well mixed. -
Season and Add Herbs
Add sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Stir in the chopped dill (or mint, depending on your preference). -
Chill and Serve
Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld together. Serve chilled as a dip or sauce.
Notes
-
Make it Spicier: Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or finely chopped fresh chili for a little heat.
-
For a Dairy-Free Version: Substitute Greek yogurt with coconut or cashew-based yogurt.
-
Herb Variations: Dill is classic, but you can experiment with fresh mint or parsley to give your tzatziki a different flavor.
