Tzatziki Sauce recipe

  • Author: Jada Parker
  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: Serves 4 to 6
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Tzatziki Sauce is a creamy and refreshing Greek dip made from yogurt, cucumber, and a variety of herbs. It’s a healthy addition to any Mediterranean meal and pairs wonderfully with grilled meats, pita bread, or fresh vegetables. With its cooling effect and tangy flavor, this homemade sauce is a must-try for anyone who loves light, healthy dips!

Ingredients

  • ½ cup finely grated cucumber

  • 1 cup Greek yogurt (whole milk)

  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

  • ½ tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil

  • 1 garlic clove, grated

  • ¼ teaspoon sea salt

  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill (or mint, or a combination)

Instructions

  1. Grate the Cucumber
Use a box grater to finely grate the cucumber.

  2. Remove Excess Water
Place the grated cucumber in a clean kitchen towel or paper towels and squeeze out the excess water to prevent the sauce from becoming too watery.

  3. Mix the Ingredients
In a medium-sized bowl, combine the grated cucumber, Greek yogurt, lemon juice, olive oil, and grated garlic. Stir everything until well mixed.

  4. Season and Add Herbs
Add sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Stir in the chopped dill (or mint, depending on your preference).

  5. Chill and Serve
Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld together. Serve chilled as a dip or sauce.

Notes

  • Make it Spicier: Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or finely chopped fresh chili for a little heat.

  • For a Dairy-Free Version: Substitute Greek yogurt with coconut or cashew-based yogurt.

  • Herb Variations: Dill is classic, but you can experiment with fresh mint or parsley to give your tzatziki a different flavor.
