Ingredients
- 1 envelope active dry yeast (about 2 ¼ teaspoons)
- ½ cup warm water (around 105°F)
- 1 cup whole milk (room temperature)
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour (more if needed)
- ½ tablespoon salt
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Melted butter (for brushing on top)
Instructions
- Bloom the Yeast: Dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for about 5–10 minutes until frothy.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the milk, melted butter, and sugar. Add the frothy yeast mixture and stir well.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: Gradually add flour and salt to the wet mixture until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm spot until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
- Shape the Rolls: Punch down the risen dough and divide it into equal portions. Shape each piece into a ball and place them in a greased baking pan.
- Second Rise: Cover the shaped rolls with a towel and let them rise again until puffy (about 1 hour).
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the Rolls: Brush the tops with an egg wash or melted butter, then bake for 20–30 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool and Serve: Allow to cool slightly before serving warm with additional melted butter if desired.
