Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Prepare the Oven and Baking Sheets: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line cookie sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
- Cream the Butter and Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, use a hand or stand mixer to cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 2–3 minutes).
- Add Wet Ingredients: Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract. Mix until fully incorporated.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed until the dough comes together. Avoid overmixing.
- Fold in Chocolate Chips: Use a spatula to gently fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips. Reserve a handful for topping if desired.
- Shape the Dough: Scoop large portions of dough (about 3 tablespoons each) and roll into balls. Place them 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets. Lightly press the tops to flatten slightly.
- Bake: Bake for 10–12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden and the centers look slightly underbaked.
- Cool: Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- For thicker cookies, chill the dough for 20 minutes before baking.
- Customize the recipe with mix-ins like dark chocolate, walnuts, or caramel bits.
- To store, keep cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
